New Giza University
Km 22 Cairo Alex Road, Cairo, Egypt
The New Giza University is located at Cairo-Alexandria roadway in New Giza, one of Cairo’s new satellite cities in the City of 6th October
The new city includes a variety of residential buildings, a resort hotel, hospital, and dense cultural, leisure, office and shopping facilities for local residents and visitors alike.
The University was conceived as part of the national trend to promote green practices and produce a sustainable fully viable learning environment, rigorous and rich with opportunities for reflection, discussion and mediation.
The revised master plan and landscape for the first phase proposes a series of quads, courtyards, plazas, and tree lined promenades that provide a strong pedestrian framework to the campus while introducing a more sustainable landscape palette. The design capitalizes on the dramatic landform of the former quarry site to create distinct character for each campus area. The amphitheatre is built on a high ridge while the VIP entrance, on leveled area, is defined by parallel double rows of palm trees along a linear water feature starting with a water jet and ending in a fountain surrounded by large flowering trees. Student main entrance is rich with shading trees along the playing fields whereas the pedestrian paths across campus celebrate connectivity and serendipitous interactions. The design plan establishes a firm and adaptable attitude to sustainability to support resiliency for years to come. Sites International will be managing the university campus site supervision to ensure the designs turn to reality.
