Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology campus (E-JUST)

Borg El-Arab, Alexandria, Egypt

Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology campus (E-JUST) is a governmental Egyptian university built in partnership with Japan in New Borg El-Arab City in Alexandria for postgraduate and undergraduate programs.

The university, located approximately 53 km south-west of Alexandria on 200 acres, leverages the potentials of key institutional anchors and population growth within the district. Notable anchors are the Alexandria University and Bibliotheca Alexandria expansions, the new City for Scientific Research and Technology Applications Institute, housing for half a million new inhabitants, an international airport, and a rapid metro system linking the area to Alexandria. EJUST campus design aims to generate an environment that will induce interaction, built-in flexibility, and foster knowledge generation and innovation while reflecting Egyptian and Japanese cultural values and identities.

Sites International collaborated with ArataIsozaki and Associates Co. to develop a green and sustainable campus landscape design with emphasis on water conservation, use of native plant materials and innovative spaces for active and passive recreation.

Design features include ponds of aquatic plants used to cool outdoor gardens, innovative lighting for motion sensing, color programming, communication and energy conservation.
