American University in Cairo New Campus Sport Complex
New Cairo, Egypt
Sites International, working closely with multiple architectural firms, developed the master plan and landscape design for the new campus of this historic university established almost 100 years ago.
An integral part of the university educational mission is the establishment of a well developed sports program. Sites International developed context-specific solutions that seamlessly integrates the building facility and outdoor fields into the surrounding campus buildings and community at large. The sport building, developed by a partnering architect, incorporates indoor practice space, competition tracks, and courts for basketball, volleyball, squash, handball and bleachers for 1,600 persons. The outdoor complex, designed and landscaped by Sites International, has a multitude of activities that include a large swimming pool with surrounding bleachers, football and track stadium with seats accommodating 2,000 spectators, one Olympic size track, basket ball court, red-sand handball court, rugby field and a hammer throwing cage. Athlete’s locker rooms and facilities for the stadium are situated strategy within the complex. Several tennis courts are well placed within the development and offer spectator seating as well. The sport complex offers one of the most unique training and competition venues in collegiate athletics.
